![]() About the Classes
Gaby McKayle teaches West African Drumming focusing on rhythms from Guinea. Students will learn 2 or more djembe parts as well as Dunun (bass drum) parts for each rhythm. We focus on one rhythm for several weeks at a time. Classes are geared to beginning and intermediate students. New students are welcome! Classes are focused and structured, but easy going and accessible to students who have never drummed before. Bring your own djembe if you have one, or loaner drums are available. Polyrhythms are the core of African music. Students will learn the djembe parts, and also the different dunun parts that intertwine to make the music so rich and exciting.
